WXPN Welcomes The War And Treaty

The War and Treaty are a powerhouse husband‑and‑wife duo—Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter—whose explosive blend of soul, country, gospel, and Americana has made them one of the most celebrated acts in modern roots music. Rising from a deeply personal origin story shaped by Michael’s Army service and Tanya’s lifelong artistic career, the pair broke through with Healing Tide (2018) and expanded their reach with Hearts Town (2020). Their major‑label debut Lover’s Game (2023) and high‑profile collaboration on Zach Bryan’s “Hey Driver” pushed them into mainstream visibility, earning Grammy nominations and historic CMA and ACM nods as the first Black duo recognized in those categories. Their dynamic live performances—fiery, emotional, and spiritually charged—have become their signature, leading to an Emmy win in 2025 and continued acclaim through ambitious recent releases like Plus One (2025) and The Story of Michael and Tanya (2026).

The Story of Michael and Tanya is The War And Treaty’s most personal, vibrant album yet, blending country, soul, and gospel with bold emotional honesty. Featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Babyface, Wynonna Judd, and Valerie June, it explores love, resilience, and hard truths through powerful storytelling. The duo leans into raw vulnerability, creating a moving celebration of strength and connection.
