Before they became known as The Lords of 52nd Street, Richie Cannata, Russell Javors, Doug Stegmeyer, and Liberty DeVitto were working musicians on the Long Island club circuit, developing the unmistakable New York sound that would soon help define one of the most successful careers in popular music. When Billy Joel set out to assemble a permanent recording and touring band in the mid-1970s, he turned to these talented players, beginning a partnership that would shape some of the most iconic albums of the era.

The group first came together during the recording of Joel's 1976 breakthrough album Turnstiles. Featuring DeVitto's driving drums, Javors' guitar work, Stegmeyer's bass, and Cannata's distinctive saxophone and keyboards, the band brought a fresh energy to songs like "New York State of Mind" and helped create the authentic New York spirit that became Joel's signature sound.

Their chemistry was undeniable. As Joel's popularity exploded, the band became an essential part of his success, performing on landmark albums including The Stranger, 52nd Street, Glass Houses, and The Nylon Curtain. Following the success of The Stranger, producer Phil Ramone famously dubbed them The Lords of 52nd Street, a name that would become synonymous with one of rock and pop's most celebrated backing bands. Together, Billy Joel and The Lords of 52nd Street sold millions of records, earned Grammy Awards, and performed on some of the world's most prestigious stages and major television programs.

After more than a decade of recording and touring together, the musicians went their separate ways, only to reunite following their induction into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. More than 30 years after last sharing the stage, The Lords of 52nd Street returned to sold-out audiences and widespread acclaim, proving that the magic of their performances had never faded.

Today, The Lords of 52nd Street continue to celebrate the music they helped create, delivering the classic hits and deep cuts that defined a generation. For Billy Joel fans, this is a rare opportunity to experience the musicians whose performances helped shape albums that have sold more than 150 million records worldwide. Their concerts are more than tributes to a remarkable era of music. They are performances by the very artists who helped create the soundtrack of New York and a generation of rock and roll history.
