Livingston Taylor picked up his first guitar at 13, launching a 50+ year career in performance, songwriting, and teaching. Born in Boston and raised in North Carolina, he’s the fourth child in a musical family that includes James, Kate, Alex, and Hugh. He recorded his first album at 19 and has since released introspective originals and sparkling interpretations of the classic songbook. His hits include “Carolina Day,” “I Will Be in Love with You,” and “Boatman,” the latter recorded by brother James. Livingston’s genre-spanning repertoire—folk, pop, gospel, jazz—has earned him fans worldwide, and he often performs with symphony orchestras.
Livingston has toured with Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, and Linda Ronstadt, and his warm, story-filled shows reflect deep musical knowledge. For over 30 years, he taught Stage Performance at Berklee, mentoring artists like John Mayer and Charlie Puth. His book Stage Performance distills 5,000+ hours of experience into practical guidance. Livingston now teaches nationwide and online via TrueFire’s “Livingston Taylor Playbook.”
Honored with “Livingston Taylor Day” in 2017, he’s the subject of the award-winning documentary Life is Good. His 2019 box set LIVe features 87 unreleased recordings. Also in 2019, American Public television filmed and released “Livingston Taylor Live from Sellersville Theater: Songs and Stories" which broadcast across PBS stations nationally In 2023, he recorded with the BBC Concert Orchestra and will tour symphonically in 2024 with charts by Tony Award-winner Bill Elliott.
