For G.E. Smith, it all began in rural Stroudsburg, PA, where he was just about born with a guitar in his hand. After accomplishing all he could in the bar-band scene as a teenager, G.E. left the Poconos and quickly established himself as a “top gun” guitarist.

In late 1977, G.E. got his first break touring with Dan Hartman. Soon after he was playing on Broadway for comedian Gilda Radner. Then, Daryl Hall and John Oates came calling. Smith toured and recorded with them for 6 years. His hard work earned him a commanding position in the music industry as a first call blues/rock guitarist, sought out by major recording artists.

When Hall & Oates took a break, Smith moved on to be musical director for Saturday Night Live, leading the band for 10 years. (At this time, he also toured with Bob Dylan for 4 years.) SNL's Mike Myers asked him to help write a tune for an SNL skit called “Wayne’s World.” The skit became a hit film, and the soundtrack (and song) became a platinum-selling smash hit. In 2015, GE returned to SNL and received an EMMY award as bandleader for SNL’s 40th anniversary special.

In 2007, the film 50 Watt Fuse, premiered at the Mill Valley film festival. Co-produced, written and directed by Smith’s wife, singer-songwriter Taylor Barton, it features him in concert and in cameo with David Lindley, Michael J Fox, Mike Myers, Hall & Oates, Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Jimmy Buffett, Mike Myers, Hot Tuna and Bob Dylan.

In 2015, G.E. and wife Taylor started PORTRAITS, a series that hosts a rotating roster of acclaimed musicians and artists from all realms for a deeper look at what drives them creatively. In 2019, GE Smith teamed up with soul stylist, X Factor finalist LeRoy Bell. An invitation to perform on the PORTRAITS series turned into some demos. The duo was signed by BMG and released a collection of songs, STONY HILL.

Never one to be idle, G.E. Smith is on his way back to Sellersville.
